Getting Your Handicap Is Easier Than You Think
If you are already registered with the Portuguese Golf Federation but still don’t have an official handicap, you can obtain one quickly and with minimal steps — even if you don’t plan to compete.
A handicap is one of the most useful tools in golf. It helps you understand your playing level, track your progress, and enjoy the game with more confidence, whether you play alone, with friends, or in competitions.

How to Get Your Handicap
To obtain a Handicap Index, you only need to submit one valid scorecarde.
- Play a round following the Rules of Golf
- Have your score confirmed and signed by another player
- Submit the card to your club
Once this first score is recorded, your handicap will update automatically every time you submit new results. It’s a simple and straightforward process designed to help every golfer understand their potential and improve consistently.

Maximum Handicap
The maximum Handicap Index for all players is 54.0, regardless of gender.
How Your Handicap Is Calculated
Your Handicap Index is based on the best 8 of your last 20 scores, adjusted for Course Rating, Slope Rating and PCC (Playing Conditions Calculation).
Submitting Scores
You may submit unlimited scores from competitions or general play rounds, as long as they follow the Rules of Golf.
Playing Handicap
Your Playing Handicap is the number of strokes you receive for a specific round, based on your Handicap Index and the difficulty of the course and tees.

FPG Fees 2026
- Until 18 Years old – 8,25 €
- From 19 to 24 Years old – 24,75 €
- More than 24 Years old – 79,50 €
- Players wirh any kind of disability medically proven – 8,25 €
How can I renew the FPG fee for this season 2026?
Regulatory reason for renewing the license of the Portuguese Golf Federation 2026
- January 1st to March 31st (after this day, the FPG applys a 10% penalty)
How do I renew this year's license?*
The club joined the automatic payment system on the FPG website and it's very simple:
- Visit the my.fpg.pt website and enter your federated number and password
- Select the "Documents" menu
- Within the "Documents" menu, select "Federation Quotas"
- Open the menu "federation fees" click on "pay dues for the year 2026"
- Confirm payment
- Then you will receive an email with entity and reference.
- About 30 minutes later you will receive the receipt corresponding to the payment
This is valid only for renewals, for those who had the fee valid during 2025

HOW TO INSERT EXTRA DAY SCORECARDS FOR HANDICAP MANAGEMENT
You must go to MY FPG enter your login and password, and:
• Menu "sport activity" and select “scorecards”
• “register new card”
• Description of the round (ex: with friends)
• Define course, date and time, way of play, and round for handicap (by default always yes)
• After identifying the marker´s licence number, proceed and enter the results
• After validating, “exit” and click on the little arrow to finish the process.

HOW TO GET THE PORTUGUESE FEDERATION CARD
The FPG membership card is In order to obtain it*, please update your data on myFPG, the private member’s area on the Portuguese Golf Federation website.
In this area you will be able to access your scores, handicap evolution and very soon to register your Extra Day Scores and enter Portuguese Golf Federation championships.
